The wait is almost over—Zach Tsiakalis-Brown, the solo developer behind the Vertigo series, has confirmed that Into the Aether, the first-ever DLC for Vertigo 2, is officially launching this April 25th on Steam for $10.
This new story expansion marks a major update to the critically acclaimed sci-fi shooter, following up on last year’s massive Bottomless Update, which added a level editor, gameplay modifiers, and new playable characters. While that was originally said to be the game’s “final content update,” plans clearly evolved—and fans are getting more of the Vertigo universe than expected.
A Dive Into the Oldest and Strangest Universe Yet
Into the Aether takes players on a journey into an ancient, mysterious universe known only as “the Aether.” Here, you’ll face powerful new enemies, explore mind-bending environments, and wield some seriously cool new tools.
Among the highlights:
- Void Grappler: A movement upgrade that lets you attach to surfaces and swing through levels like a VR Spider-Man.
- Void Deflector: A new defensive gadget that lets you time deflections perfectly and build up energy for devastating counterattacks.
- Void Artifacts: Hidden items you’ll need to find to increase your power and uncover alternate paths.
The DLC continues the surreal and cinematic storytelling fans loved in the base game, while ramping up the combat and traversal to new levels.
PC VR Exclusive (For Now)
At the moment, Into the Aether is only coming to the PC VR version of the game via Steam. While Vertigo 2 was successfully ported to PSVR 2 by Perp Games, there’s been no word yet on whether the DLC will make its way to PlayStation VR. So if you’re on console, you may have to wait—or fire up your PC headset to experience it first.
A Must-Play for Vertigo Fans
If you’ve already played Vertigo 2, this DLC looks like a no-brainer. And if you haven’t jumped in yet, there’s never been a better time. Between the 10+ hour base campaign, the Bottomless Update, and now Into the Aether, there’s a massive amount of content waiting to be explored.
Get ready to step back into one of the most creative and trippy VR worlds out there—Into the Aether lands April 25th.
