Meta is bringing Halloween chills straight to your headset with the latest addition to Quest’s Immersive Home — the Blumhouse Forest.
The new background environment arrives as part of Meta Horizon OS v81, which introduced a completely redesigned Immersive Home system earlier this month. This update replaced all of the older Quest VR home environments with a new, dynamic system built on Meta’s advanced Horizon Engine.
Originally, the Immersive Home launched with four unique background settings — Horizon Central, Midnight, Valley, and Oceanarium — each blending detailed 3D elements with atmospheric skyboxes. Now, Meta is adding a fifth option just in time for spooky season: the Blumhouse Forest.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Blumhouse Productions is the powerhouse studio behind some of the biggest horror franchises of the 21st century — Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister, The Purge, Split, Get Out, M3GAN, and even Five Nights at Freddy’s.
This isn’t Blumhouse’s first step into VR. Earlier this year, the studio launched Horrorverse in Meta Horizon Worlds, a chilling collection of social horror experiences inspired by its most famous films like M3GAN, The Purge, Wolf Man, and The Black Phone. More recently, it released Blumhouse Enhanced Cinema, a Quest 3 app that lets viewers in the US rent and watch horror films in specially designed VR environments with immersive, movie-specific effects.
To activate the new Blumhouse Forest in your Immersive Home, simply press the left Touch controller’s menu button — or, if you’re using hand tracking, open your palm and pinch your left index finger to your thumb.
So if you’re looking to set the perfect Halloween mood in VR, step into the eerie Blumhouse Forest and experience your Quest home like never before.
