BlackGate Confirms Early Access Release Date For Asymmetric 4v1 VR Horror Game

Fun Train has officially announced that BlackGate, its upcoming 4v1 multiplayer horror VR game, is now available for pre-order on Meta Quest. Following a successful closed alpha testing period, the studio revealed that the Early Access version will launch on October 2nd for all current generation Quest headsets, including Quest 2 and Quest Pro.

A Sci-Fi Twist on Classic Multiplayer Concepts

BlackGate combines the suspenseful teamwork of games like Among Us with the escalating tension of Evolve. Players take on the role of Engineers trying to maintain and repair a derelict space station, all while being hunted by a shapeshifting alien menace. But this isn’t your typical “imposter” gameplay—there are no disguises or sneaky votes. Instead, players face real-time zero-gravity combat and must rely on quick thinking and collaboration to survive.

As the match progresses, the alien character evolves through different stages—starting as a small, stealthy predator and eventually transforming into a full-fledged nightmare, reminiscent of a mindflayer. On the other side, Engineers can find powerful weapons during gameplay, and even connect their suits to machinery or each other to gain an advantage.

Pre-Order Perks and Pricing Strategy

To encourage early support, Fun Train is offering BlackGate at a special pre-order price of $9.99, which includes a Founder’s Pack. This exclusive bundle adds three limited-time cosmetic skins featuring a sleek purple-black theme. Notably, this pack will only be available during the pre-order window and won’t be offered after launch.

The price will gradually increase after release, jumping to $14.99 during the Early Access period, and then to $19.99 when the full version of the game launches.

Fun Train’s founder, Douglas Nabors, shared that the low entry price was a deliberate choice:

“We know that’s a very low price for a game of this scale. Some have even warned us against it. But we made this decision intentionally — BlackGate is a multiplayer-first experience, and we want to bring as many players into the world as possible when Early Access begins on October 2nd.”

With over 10,000 players already adding the game to their wishlist, anticipation is building steadily.

What to Expect in Early Access

While the final version of BlackGate will feature in-app purchases, it’s still unclear whether they will be active during the Early Access phase. However, the development team is expected to share more details in the weeks ahead.

The game also supports multiple play styles, including roomscale, standing, and seated mode, making it accessible to a wide range of VR players.

PC VR Version Also in the Works

A Steam release is also on the roadmap, though no official date has been announced yet. For now, all eyes are on the October 2 Early Access launch, as BlackGate prepares to bring its terrifying and thrilling sci-fi experience to life on Meta Quest.
