The Homeworld universe is expanding once again — this time in virtual reality. Homeworld: Vast Reaches, the real-time strategy (RTS) experience developed by FarBridge, is set to launch on SteamVR on October 23, bringing upgraded visuals and fresh challenges to PC VR players.
Originally released for the Meta Quest last year, Vast Reaches bridges the story between Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2, giving players a brand-new chapter in the beloved sci-fi saga. You’ll step into the role of Tyrra Soban, a Fleet Commander guided by the iconic Karan S’jet, as you confront a mysterious new threat lurking in the depths of space.
While Homeworld has traditionally been a flatscreen series, Vast Reaches reimagines the franchise for VR — and the results look promising. Using intuitive motion controls, you can manipulate fleets, build ships, and issue commands from an immersive 3D environment. A virtual command module appears on your wrist, allowing you to direct massive space battles from any angle — a dream come true for RTS fans who’ve always wanted to step inside their strategy games.
